Hi,
I Have finished my Executive MBA (part time) from a reputed Business School. I am now pursuing a specialization in marketing.
I have 5 years of experience in Customer service (Telecommunication industry)
Please suggest me what are job opportunities in this field. I am also interested in communication and media industry.
Over the past 8 to 9 months, I have not been in the industry since I had to take care of my child. I now want to get back.
Your advice on career opportunities post-MBA in marketing for my case would be of great value. Thanks in advance. Regards

Hi Kavita,
Thanks for your detailed forum post. To answer your queries
(1) Telecommunication industry will be the best bet for you: (A) Your already have experience in customer interface in the industry. 5 years is a lot! (B) Changing industries post-MBA is often difficult (although not impossible) since employers tend to look at your prior work experience to a very significant level. This is especially important for senior candidates like you with more than 2-3 years of track record (c) By shifting industry, you are bypassing all the great value you can add as a telecom industry professional
(2) In terms of opening, you can shift to “assistant marketing manager” role. Then you can quickly rise to “marketing manager” position.
(3) If you do want to shift to media and communication, you should intern with related companies. IF they like your performance in the internship, it may convert to a full-time offer. The question is: Do you have a marketing project portfolio? Do you have an media related specializations in your MBA??
(4) Finally, we would frankly like to add that your best result post-MBA is always Pre-MBA experience + MBA + During MBA specializations, projects and internships. Do not rely on the school pedigree or degree alone. It’s business – what matters is what value you can professionally add.
Hope this helps.

Hi Rahul,
To answer your Queries
1. A content analyst role is surely futuristic, especially for internet marketing. Most of the internet marketing is now getting more and more content driven and less technical. You can gradually move from content to Brand management
2. Yes, you can. Such a shift is easy provided you prove your analytical abilities (during content role) very well
3. For certifications, Please visit the American marketing Association website.
Thanks
